SeniorNet Volunteer Corner

Help support our SeniorNet program by working behind the scenes or by instructing older adults in basic and specialized computer functions and programs. Our students are all adults age 50+ and classes are conducted in our SeniorNet lab, which can accommodate 6 students at a time which means class sizes are kept small.

We are always recruiting new volunteers to take on a variety of computer lab related tasks! SeniorNet is one of our largest and most popular programs offered at the EthelHartSeniorCenter and coordinating each session of classes takes an immense amount of effort.  Classes are held between the hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Mondays through Saturdays. Class times can be scheduled to accommodate instructor availability and most classes are 1 ½ hours in length and meet weekly for eight weeks.

Some examples of areas where your skills and abilities may be put to use:

• Teaching or coaching (assisting an instructor) a class
• Maintaining the lab computers
• Researching grants and other sources of funding
• Recruiting new volunteers, interviewing volunteers, coordinating schedules
• Create materials for upcoming sessions (ex: burn CD’s for students)
• Lead our cartridge recycling program
• Lead Orientation and Registration presentation
• Update manuals for upcoming sessions
• Developing new class schedules for each session
• Outreach/Marketing
• Website Development

Volunteer With Us

Computer Instructors:  Volunteers are needed to serve as Computer Instructors for older adults and seniors in basic computer functions and programs.  Various schedules available and most classes are 1 ½ hours in length and meet weekly during an 8-week session.  The volunteer Instructor and Coach may teach up to seven students in our computer lab.  Our classes are held Monday through Friday between 9:30 am and 5 pm.  Volunteers use a curriculum designed specifically for the older learner by SeniorNet, a worldwide organization dedicated to computer literacy for older adults.
